Niagara Regional Police have charged two St. Catharines residents after recovering large amounts of drugs stolen from an animal hospital late last month.
Police investigating a Dec. 20 break-in at the Skyway Animal Hospital on Welland Avenue discovered $35,000 worth of powerful drugs had been stolen.
The drugs, including liquid hydromorphine and phenobarbital tablets, are used to treat humans as well as animals, but are extremely dangerous.
On Dec. 29 police arrested, Robert Brown 29, on an unrelated matter.
Police allege he had a number of items stolen from the Skyway Animal Hospital.
On Jan. 4, police searched a Duke Street home and recovered more of the drugs.
Police charged one resident and are seeking an arrest warrant for a second person.
St. Catharines resident Danielle Jones, 23, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of a controlled substance, and failure to comply with an officer in charge undertaking.
Robert Brown remains in custody following his Dec. 29 arrest and faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance.
Investigators believe a number of stolen drugs were distributed before police made arrests.
