Apparent overdose leads to heroin dealing charges

An apparent drug overdose a week ago near Columbian Park in Lafayette has led to criminal charges against a suspected heroin dealer. Richard J. Dixon, 53, of Lafayette, was charged Monday in Tippecanoe Circuit Court with dealing in a narcotic drug, a Class A felony; possession of a narcotic drug, a Class A felony; maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor. He's also accused of being a habitual substance offender, which could add three to eight years onto his prison sentence, if convicted.
